One of my favorite ways of using the Whole Tone scale in an unusual yet interesting fashion. It's a great tool to play outside over a Minor/Min(maj7) tonality while retaining that Symmetric type of sound that you get with a scale like the Whole Tone Scale!
It's a fairly simple concept in which you'd play the Whole tone scale a semi-tone or half step away from the tonic minor tonality that you're in. For example you can play a Db Whole Tone scale over a Cm(maj7) tonality and achieve an intervallic function of b2 b3 4 5 6 7. Try it out and let me know if you enjoy it in the comments section!
